St. Malo Port + Harbour Guide


More than a million passengers go through St. Malo, France, every year. Located in the northwestern corner of the country, in the northern region of France, Brittany. When you arrive, the St. Malo port welcomes visitors with beautiful views, a cafe and plenty of opportunities to travel to multiple other destinations.

St. Malo Attractions

In St. Malo, there's plenty to do, whether you're staying for a day or a week. If you have a short time, many sites are in easy walking distance. You can visit beautiful beaches where you can swim, fish or just enjoy the view. You could also visit the Grand Aquarium, one of the largest aquariums in France, which holds more than 11,000 marine animals and 600 different species. If you have the time, you can also explore the channel islands or walk down to the tomb of Chateaubriand.

There are also many historic attractions, including the Fort National, which was built in the late 1600s to protect the city from invasions. You can also visit Chateau de St. Vincent, which is called the Bastille of the West. There is a large keep, a town hall and a reservoir that you can tour. A cathedral is also nearby. The historic manor home of Jacques Cartier, a French explorer, is also in St. Malo.

St. Malo Ferry Routes

St. Malo has two ferry terminals. These go to Portsmouth, Weymouth and Poole in Britain. Two ferries go out between St. Malo and Portsmouth every day. The journey is between 9 and 11 hours, depending on when you go. Guernsey and Jersey in the channel islands also go to St. Malo. You can take overnight trips or day trips, but night trips take longer.

At the St. Malo port, you'll find a cafe, restrooms and gift shops. You can also easily connect to other methods of transportation to tour the area or travel to another part of France.

Transportation to and From the Port

You can rent a car at St. Malo and get to the rest of the country by taking N137. When you're ready to return, you'll look for signs indicating "Terminal Ferry du Naye." If you'd rather not drive, taxis are available.

Buses are only a short walk from the terminal and A taxi can take you to the train station, located in Square Sean Coquelin.
