Roscoff Port / Harbour Guide

Roscoff, the port in South France, is west of Perros Guirec and linked to Cork and Plymouth. Situated on the headlands of the Bay of Morlaix, it is close to Ile de Batz, an island that protects the port from the turbulent sea. The town is centuries old, with some granite houses dating back to the 16th century. Prior to becoming a ferry port, it was a historic port visited by Bonnie Prince Charlie and Mary Queen of Scots. The ferry port itself was opened in 1973 to stimulate the local economy by facilitating trading between Brittany and Ireland, as well as Southwest England.

Local Attractions / Town Guide

Roscoff is a popular tourist attraction because of its fluffy sand beaches, the invigorating iodine-rich air, it scenic beauty, and its historical sites. This corsair town was the home of the Onion Johnnies, French traders who travelled to England to sell onions. Visitors enjoy the Onion Johnnies Museum, which captures the story of the French onion sellers; the Thalassotherapy Institute, a spa that uses seawater and seaweed therapy for beauty, health, and rejuvenation; the Jardin Exotique, a garden with 3,000 tropical plants; the Notre Dame de Croatz Batz, a gothic cathedral built in the 16th century; and the Ile de Batz, a 15 minute boat trip away, a charming island with a lighthouse and gardens.
